Simon was born in Lambeth, London, and raised in Elstree, Hertfordshire by his mother (Julie Brett) and father (Eric Selig Philip Cowell).

His mother was a ballet dancer and socialite and was from a Christian background. while his father, was an estate agent, property developer, and music industry executive and belongs to a Jewish family.

Simon started his career in the early 1980s, by forming E&S Music company with his former superior at EMI but he quit in the year 1983. He was then involved in forming Fanfare Records with Iain Burton.

In the year 1986, he released his first hit song with “So Macho” by singer Sinitta. Cowell then found a job with a BMG music company as an A&R consultant and set up S Records under the BMG company banner.

Simon Cowell started over his career in the music business by creating original records with performances such as the puppets Zig and Zag, Power Rangers, and World Wrestling Federation.
