CONCORD, Del. — A longtime mall Santa with the perfect name for the job has died. The man, whose legal name was Santa A. Claus, died Thursday, his age is unknown, according to his obituary.
“His primary occupation for many years was working as Santa Claus at the Concord Mall in Delaware,” the family wrote.
Claus and his wife Delores worked 13-hour days together at the mall during the holiday season, sometimes seeing up to 300 children during a shift, according to a 2007 New York Times article about them.
The couple worked there from 1993 until 2011 when their contract ran out. They were surprised and saddened to be replaced, Delaware News Journal reported. However, they continued portraying the North Pole pair at an outlet mall in New Jersey.
